End the property tax nightmare!

Yet another legislator (who must have been in Tibet for the last ten years) asks the public to jump through hoops to get Albany’s (her) attention…….

The longtime Chair of the Assembly Real Property Tax Committee in Albany just (predictably) sent out yet another of her public meeting notices…with a disingenuous call for more public “groundswells ”.

These “show” public meetings have been a regular feature of the assemblywoman’s tenure in office during which nothing we grass roots reformers said at multiple “hearings” seemed to have been actually heard by her.

…and – even more importantly -during her tenure in that tax committee Chair – 2 billion dollars or so in relief was actually lost by property taxpayers she was supposedly representing… and that big money lost to homeowners and renters was replaced by the kaka cap for which she voted.

NOW in the assemblywoman’s own words we hear this:

“To start chipping away at state mandates, it will be necessary to have a groundswell of support from the public. “

CHIPPING AWAY??? For another decade or more?

She’s calling for a “GROUNDSWELL” FOR a PROPERTY TAX ISSUE like unfunded mandate reform that people have been screaming about for years; and about which and allied groups have  been lobbying her and the rest of the legislature all that damned time!??

Are you kidding?!

What constitutes a “groundswell for this entrenched Chair of the Assembly Real Property Tax Comm.?

Is OWS enough or must a “groundswell” resemble a Middle Eastern gun-toting massacre to get your attention, Assemblywoman?

We don’t need that kind of “groundswell” in America…there is already a “groundswell” for tax reform…and legislators who are oblivious to that fact after so many “seat warming” years in office aren’t entitled to another “groundswell” and another useless year in office.

Here’s a history lesson for Albany politicians who think it’s still going to be business as usual this session.

Wasn’t it established that there was a groundswell for mandate relief AND the circuit breaker at the widely publicized Blue Ribbon Commission on property taxes?

Haven’t unprecedented numbers of reformers and good government groups (like Omnibus and the League of Women Voters) been saying for the last two years-loud and clear- that the cap was junk legislation and without mandate relief and property tax relief the cap was a disaster in the making?

…and didn’t you have a circuit breaker bill for years , Assemblywoman?

What happened to it? It went to the bill graveyard while you proudly voted for the tax levy cap which everyone knew would just complicate everything; fix nothing; and relieve no one.

So let’s Not have another ridiculous meeting, Assemblywoman.

Don’t continue tasking the public to beg you for tax reform.

We are not here to entertain you or your colleagues by creating “groundswell after groundswell” crying for relief from the insane property tax and reduction in the insane wealth gap in NYS.

Every Albany legislator must know what’s needed by this time…

WE MUST keep the millionaire’s tax to provide-among other vital needs- middle class property tax relief and restoration of services.

The public has done their part and made their wishes and needs clear at hearing after hearing after hearing after HEARING ad nauseam .

Now you do your part…or move aside and let someone else have that seat.
